The below is my experience of losing a family member I truly loved. I learned the hard way that grief is personal, and has no timetable. The below might or might not resonate with you; everyone experiences pain differently. Seeing a professional is a gift you can make to yourself.

There might be moments where you feel like you won’t ever be “normal” again.

It constantly happens to me when people talk about mountains.

I’m from the north of Italy, and here people love mountains. It’s a cool thing to do on a weekend. My friends and colleagues typically rent a flat in the mountains for a few months each year. Mountains are a topic you casually mention couple times a day — it’s cool and everyone likes it.

Sometimes you get into discussing safety, mountains are dangerous, how can we protect ourselves when we go hiking? People would just casually drop “how dangerous mountains are” in a conversation.

The issue is — I lost a family member like this. He fell 50 meters during a hike. It was, and still is, devastating.
